Foodstuffs

Who We Are

Foodstuffs is a genuine Kiwi success story. From early days in Auckland in 1922, we have grown to become New Zealand's biggest grocery distributor, and one of the country's largest organisations.

Employing more than 30,000 people nationwide, Foodstuffs is proudly 100% Kiwi owned and operated. And because we're local we understand the needs of our communities, and strive to provide the best shopping experience possible for our customers.

  • Foodstuffs (Auckland) Limited - covering the upper North Island from Cape Reinga, and south to Hawkes Bay, Ohakune and New Plymouth
  • Foodstuffs (Wellington) Co-operative Society Limited - covering the lower North Island from Hawkes Bay, Ohakune through to New Plymouth and south to Wellington.
  • Foodstuffs South Island Limited - covering the entire South Island.

Each of the regional co-operatives is owned by its retail members, and operates independently with its own Board and management. There are no common members or shareholders.

The three regional co-operatives jointly own Foodstuffs (NZ) Limited, a small non-trading entity, which plays a very important role in expanding the organisation's profile, and in representing the three co-operatives' interests on issues of national or grocery-specific importance.

New World Kaiapoi

Foodstuffs South Island is very disappointed to advise that due to the severe nature of the damage which has resulted from the earthquake, New World Kaiapoi will not be re-opening and will need to be re-built. Understandably, this is an incredibly distressing time for the local owners, Andrew and Jacqui Palmer, and their staff. The supermarket currently has 34 full time and 52 part time staff employed who will all be affected.
