Shopping just got easier with New World Kumeu

New World Kumeu is completing its finishing touches, as the eagerly anticipated supermarket gets ready to open on Tuesday 1 April at 8.15am.

New World Kumeu is completing its finishing touches, as the eagerly anticipated supermarket gets ready to open on Tuesday 1 April at 8.15am.

The new store will bring convenience and choice to Kumeu locals and Angela Bull, Foodstuffs North Island General Manager, Property Development is excited for the store opening.

“We are delighted to bring New World to Kumeu.  We have had incredible support and interest from the Kumeu community from when the store was first announced. We are excited to be able to open the doors to the 2,850sqm modern New World for our customers to enjoy.”

New World Kumeu represents a new generation of supermarket. The supermarket has plenty of natural light and glazing for a more enjoyable shop, and the store has sustainability features to lower the carbon footprint. These include transcritical CO2 natural refrigeration, lids on freezers and LED lighting.

The store will also be one first supermarkets to implement Foodstuffs new Waste Minimisation Plan. This plan aims to send 90% of waste materials to other uses instead of a landfill. Produce and bakery waste will become stock feed, cardboard and plastics will be recycled, and proteins will be reprocessed.

It is estimated these features will shrink the carbon footprint in store by 50% in comparison to a store five years ago.

Harry Chawla, owner-operator of New World Kumeu is looking forward to opening the new supermarket and meeting the locals.

“I can’t wait to open the doors to our new store. I’ve been working in supermarkets for 14 years and I’m excited to move to a store with a great community and meet all the locals,” he said.

“The store is very green focussed to suit the area, and we have a huge fresh range where we will support local growers in the area.”

The new supermarket will create 105 new jobs in the community.

New World Kumeu will have a fresh bakery, butchery, deli and seafood counter, and a large range of fresh food and grocery products. The store also has plenty of car parks and easy access off Main Road.

The supermarket, located at 110 Main Road in Kumeu Village, will be officially opened on Tuesday 1 April 2014 at 8.15am by the Hon Steven Joyce, Economic Development Minister.  Members of the public are welcome to attend the opening and be amongst the first people to shop at New World Kumeu.
