Healthy Communities

Helping New Zealanders make better choices.

  • Healthy eating

As a responsible organisation, and as a major distributor and retailer of food, we believe that we have a part to play in encouraging New Zealanders to eat healthily and to balance their energy intake and output. Our aim is to encourage our customers to eat a variety of nutritious foods and to be physically active.

Our primary focus is giving customers the opportunity to learn about healthy eating, have access to affordable, nutritious foods, and sufficient product information to make well-informed decisions about their food purchases.

  • Working for healthier communities

Our private label brand Pams sponsors the Food for Thought community-based nutrition programme teaching 9 to 10-year-olds healthy eating and lifestyle habits.

We're introducing a "healthy-options" range of products under the Pams brand, and are reformulating products to reduce salt, sugar and saturated fat. Our sponsorships also encourage Kiwis to get active such as such as Netball New Zealand and grassroots sports and social clubs.

Foodstuffs complies with all Advertising Standards Authority codes of practice especially as this relates to advertising to children.

  • 5+ A Day

Foodstuffs supports 5+ A Day - a Charitable Trust which encourages all Kiwis to eat five or more servings of colourful, fresh fruit and vegetables every day for health and vitality.

Four Square

The local Four Square is everywhere you are. Over the years Four Square has become one of New Zealand's most iconic brands and, as Foodstuffs' first grocery store, it’s our heritage brand. Four Square stores range from the small neighbourhood shop in larger towns and cities; perfect for picking up last minute ingredients for dessert or dinner to the larger grocery store in rural and provincial regions that services its community's everyday shopping needs.
