    All new stores are designed to minimise water use and wastage in accordance with the NZ Building Code and any applicable Council bylaws.

    The Waste Minimisation Programme for supermarkets encourages stores to focus on recycling and reusing waste at back of store, with landfill being a last resort.

    Foodstuffs is a member of the Packaging Forum, and we play an active role in promoting the sustainable use of packaging.

    We also encourage our suppliers to accept responsibility in terms of the environmental effects of their products, and to comply with the Code of Practice for the Packaging of Consumer Goods.

The local Four Square has grown to become one of New Zealand's most iconic identities and, as Foodstuffs' first grocery store, it is our organisation's heritage brand. With over 240 stores nationwide, Four Square stores range from small neighbourhood shops in larger towns and cities, perfect for picking up last minute ingredients for dinner or dessert, to larger grocery stores in rural and provincial regions that serve their communities’ everyday shopping needs.
