New World Te Atatū has officially opened its doors today, following a $50 million investment that has created approximately 100 local jobs and expanded grocery choice for the growing West Auckland community.
The new, locally owned and operated supermarket is owned by husband-and-wife team Scott and Ashleigh Jackson, who are part of the Foodstuffs North Island co-operative of individual local business owners who own and run New World, PAK’nSAVE and Four Square stores across the North Island.
Foodstuffs North Island Chief Executive, Chris Quin said the opening reflected the long-term commitment owner-operators make to the communities they serve.
"New World stores are locally owned and operated by people who live in the communities they serve. Scott and Ashleigh's commitment to Te Atatū is a great example of how owner-operators back their communities by creating jobs, supporting local suppliers and providing customers with great places to shop.
"Our co-operative is made up of local business owners like Scott and Ashleigh who have a long-term commitment to the communities they are part of.”
Scott Jackson said opening day marked an important milestone for everyone involved in bringing the new supermarket to life.
"It's a great feeling to finally open the doors and welcome customers into the store.
"Over the past few months, we've had the opportunity to meet local organisations, community leaders and residents, and we've been made to feel welcome.
"We're looking forward to becoming part of the community, getting to know our customers and supporting the local schools, clubs and organisations that make Te Atatū such an awesome place to live."
At 1,579m², the supermarket’s retail space includes grocery, fresh produce, butchery, seafood, bakery and deli departments, along with 136 customer car parks.
Scott said building the team was one of the highlights of the project.
"We've been fortunate to bring together a strong team of people who genuinely care about looking after customers.”
"We’ve got lots of local team members, which means they understand the community and the customers we'll be serving every day."
"Today's opening is the result of months of work from our team, contractors and partners, and we're grateful for everything they've done to help get the store ready."
Like all New World stores, New World Te Atatū is locally owned and operated, with Scott and Ashleigh responsible for the day-to-day running of the business. Their ownership is made possible through the Foodstuffs co-operative, where grocers are shareholders who achieve more together while remaining independent business owners.
Ashleigh Jackson said they were looking forward to serving customers and becoming part of the community for many years to come.
"As local owner-operators, we're invested in Te Atatū for the long term. Being part of the community means we're committed to providing a supermarket that reflects what local customers need while supporting the people, organisations and businesses around us."
"We're pleased to have partnered with Fair Food as our food rescue partner. They’re just up the road in Avondale and help lots of local community groups. If there's an opportunity to support people while reducing food waste, that's something we're proud to be part of."
The store is open seven days a week from 7am to 10pm.
