New Zealand’s newest supermarket, New World Point Chevalier, has had a flying start, with more than 22,000 shoppers through the checkouts in its first week of trading.
Owner Operator Matthew Mullins says the strong support from the local community has been fantastic.
“We’ve been blown away by the response from locals. Every day the store’s been buzzing, and it’s great to already be spotting familiar faces as people come back again and again. So many customers have told me they’ve been hanging out for us to open - it feels awesome to finally be here and serving the community.”
In its first week, the store welcomed an average of 3,000 customers a day, with shoppers buying around 11 items each.
Mullins says the fresh produce section has been a real hit.
“People have been loading up on fruit and veg - mandarins, broccoli, avocados, you name it. You can tell how much locals care about getting really good, fresh produce, and it’s been great seeing how quickly it’s moving.”
The store has also noticed some clear shopping patterns forming, including a lunchtime surge.
“Customers are learning to shop the store with around 300 people coming through between 12pm and 1pm every day. It’s fascinating seeing habits emerge, whether its people grabbing a quick bite, families doing their weekly shop, or customers checking out the store for the first time. We’re off to a great start and want to thank everyone who has come in – we appreciate the support.”
This week, New World Point Chevalier’s online shopping service has also gone live, giving customers the option to do their shopping online for added convenience.
