Whata Kai

Whata Kai is a Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services (NISS) led initiative established in Kaikohe to address food insecurity through community collaboration, and strengthen the existing kai support network across the rōhe.

With the help of Foodstuffs and alongside key partners, Whata Kai assists whānau facing economic hardship by providing an experience where they can shop for the kai they need and be connected to other supports, services and resources.

Whata Kai is an expression of community manaaki, a safe space where whānau can rest, enjoy a kaputī and engage in kōrero. Whata Kai also facilitates opportunities for whānau to participate in workshops and learn about growing and preparing healthy kai.
