Store design

The best way to reduce a store’s environmental impact throughout its life is to get the design right at the beginning.

The New World store in Lincoln is a great example of our sustainability focus being put into practice at a newer store. Sustainability is a key factor in both the construction and day-to-day running of the supermarket, with bike parking, wind turbines to generate some of the power, a newly developed non-PVC flooring system and CO² refrigeration. The store has also introduced LED lighting and a great waste minimisation and recycling system that now includes both soft plastics and battery bins at front of store. All that hard work and dedication paid off when they won the Grand Prize in the Lincoln Envirotown's Responsibility Business Awards.
