Foodstuffs Environmental Principles

“Foodstuffs is working with our suppliers, customers and community organisations to help deliver practical solutions to the environmental challenges.” – Steve Anderson, Managing Director Foodstuffs New Zealand Ltd

Foodstuffs acknowledges that all the products we sell in our stores and our business operations have an associated environmental footprint. Foodstuffs is pioneering new ways technology can help us make our own operations more sustainable. We are working with customers and suppliers around New Zealand to help them reduce the environmental impacts of their actions.
Recognising that environmental leadership begins at home, we’ve instituted a range of initiatives (referenced in the sustainability pages of our website) to reduce the environmental footprint of our products and services.

Foodstuffs Environmental Principles

Foodstuffs follows strict policies to ensure that the company fully complies with all environmental regulation. We actively work to protect our natural resources by doing the following:

Conserving, reusing and recycling. When it is feasible, Foodstuffs conserves natural resources by using renewable materials and supplies, efficiently using energy, and actively participating in recycling programmes.

Reducing and disposing of waste. Foodstuffs reduces and where possible eliminates waste through appropriate material selection and diversion of waste to other uses. All residual waste is safely and responsibly handled and disposed of.

Developing safe and sustainable products. Our practices aim to protect, conserve, and sustain the world’s natural resources and also protect our customers and the communities where we live and operate.

Making environmental stewardship part of our business relationships. We strive to incorporate our environmental principles into our business relationships and actively work with our stakeholders to reduce the environmental impacts associated with products and services.

Continually improving our performance. We set objectives and targets to ensure continuous improvement in our environmental performance. Foodstuffs values employee contributions to our environmental initiatives. We regularly review our business activity and assess our environmental programmes, practices, and goals to evaluate progress and identify areas where we can make improvements.

Demonstrating responsibility to our stakeholders. We engage our stakeholders about our objectives and targets, and we periodically communicate our progress to the boards of directors, cooperative members, customers, and members of the public.
